Children's Critical Care
Vinyl artwork has been commissioned from Peagreen designers across three related children's departments - Clinical Decision Unit, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and Paediatric High Dependency Unit - to provide a coherent feel to the wards and create attractive and positive environments for patients, visitors and staff.
All the designs are bright and colourful and suited to the wide age range of young patients who use the wards. As all the wards are at basement level, the brief was to create a feeling of light and space in the designs. Each unit has its own distinctive theme - calmer imagery used in areas where patients are more unwell, and imagery with a wealth of birds, fish and animals to count in wards where patients are more lively and spaces such as treatment rooms where there's a need for distraction.
Clinical Decision Unit
All imagery in CDU has a seaside theme and has been designed so that there is lots to view and distract young patients. The artwork comprises above-bed wall vinyls, framed prints in the parents room/play room, vinyl artwork to screen consulting rooms and pharmacy areas, and a staff board.
Paediatric Intensive Care Unit
A calming woodland themed has been designed for this ward, with delicate vinyls on glazed doors in cubicles and on windows, masking an unattractive view.
Paediatric High Dependency Unit
The woodland theme is carried across from PICU to neighbouring PHDU, but here a little brighter in colour, though still softer more muted tones. Large wall vinyls provide a backdrop to beds and window vinyls let in sunlight but create a screen of trees to enliven the ward.
Parents' Rooms and Breastfeeding Room
A series of prints have been designed for the Parents' Rooms on PICU and PHDU and the Breastfeeding Room, linking to the woodland theme but more suited to the adults who use these spaces.
