Colorectal and Anal Cancer MDT
The Colorectal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) is a well-established group of experts with a specialist role in the diagnosis, treatment and management of people with colorectal and anal cancer.
The team comprises doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who manage the treatment of colorectal and anal cancers in Oxfordshire.
The team meets every Monday to discuss, in confidence, newly referred patients with a suspected or confirmed diagnosis of colorectal or anal cancer. The MDT meetings offer a forum for the team members to plan and agree a programme of treatment specific to individual patient needs.
This approach ensures that all necessary investigations are carried out as quickly as possible and the best available treatment is offered. Treatment options are then discussed with the patient and their family at a subsequent appointment, which is often later that week, and treatment starts without delay.
The Colorectal and Anal Cancer MDT offers specialist advice to other colorectal cancer teams within the Thames Valley Cancer Network. Patients from outside the county are often referred to our service in Oxford, as we provide specialist treatment not available in all hospitals.
The Colorectal Cancer and Anal MDT currently includes members from the following specialties:
- Surgery
- Clinical Oncology
- Medical Oncology
- Radiology
- Pathology
- Gastroenterology
- Specialist Nursing
- Specialist Palliative Care based at Sobell House Hospice
