ZnT8 Antibodies
Also known as: Zinc Transporter 8 Antibodies
ZnT8 Antibody testing is performed by a referral laboratory. This assay is only available to members of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Autoantibodies to pancreatic beta cell antigens are important serological markers of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D). The antigens recognised by these antibodies include insulin, glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD65), the islet cell antibodies, islet tyrosine phosphatase 2 (IA2) antibodies.and zinc transporter 8 (ZnT8). ZnT8 Ab are directed principally to the C terminal domain of ZnT8.
Zinc transporter 8 (ZnT8) is vital for the biosynthesis and secretion of insulin and ZnT8 autoantibodies (ZnT8A) are among the most recently discovered and least-characterised islet autoantibodies.
This assay is performed at a referral laboratory (external users requiring serum ZnT8 antibody levels are advised to contact the referral laboratory directly):
