Norovirus

With the exception of small bowel transplant and Immunology patients, Norovirus testing is only available in the context of an outbreak or on the advice of Infection Prevention and Control.

If an outbreak is suspected, please contact Infection Prevention and Control, or, if out of hours, the on-call Microbiologist.

Samples are only tested within 7 days from the start of an outbreak. Once an outbreak is confirmed to be due to Norovirus, no further samples will be tested.

Send stool sample in a sterilin 30ml universal, with quick-start cap and spoon: clearly label the sample with details of the outbreak
