Oxford Sarcoma Service Referrals
Referral to this service can only be made by a GP or consultant - self-referral is not accepted.
Please consult your doctor if you think you should be referred to this service.

Referral pathways
GP referrals
All GP referrals must come through e-Referral.
Non GP / hospital consultant referrals
Suspected bone tumour referrals only. Suspected soft tissue sarcomas should be referred to relevant regional soft tissue sarcoma centre.
Local imaging including plain film and MRI should be performed prior to referral.
To make a referral to the Oxford Sarcoma Service, a clinician should send a clinical referral letter, with copies of images sent from PACS via IEP to Oxford, to: sarcoma.referrals@ouh.nhs.uk.
Please ensure patient is aware of referral and senior clinician contact details on referral form so feedback can be provided.
Metastatic cases to be referred to local metastatic service or regional metastatic hub.
If patient is an inpatient

Highlight referral, summarise case and leave contact details of a senior clinician.
Outcome will be telephoned through within 24 hours (weekdays) or the following Monday (weekends).
If patient is an outpatient
The referral will be reviewed and outcome provided via letter with one of three outcomes.
- No treatment required
- Advice provided to local / referring team
- Outpatient appointment booked in Oxford for patient review
Review of Pathology slides
If opinion on histological slides is required then please email relevant information to MDTSarcoma@ouh.nhs.uk.
Representative blocks and slides from all pathological material together transfer of relevant radiology via PACs should be sent to:

Surgery review
If cases have had previous surgery, copies of the surgical notes should be provided. This is particularly required in cases of re-excision.
Oncology review
Previous chemotherapy (drugs and doses, number of cycles, toxicity) should be provided.
Previous radiotherapy (including photocopies of plans, prescribed doses, if indicated) should be provided.
International referrals
Indication of the source of funding for medical care would be very helpful in efficient planning of international referrals.
