Why exercise?

Regular exercise can substantially reduce your risks of developing serious and debilitating disease.

Disease state Risk reduction
Heart attacks and angina 40%
Stroke 27%
Colon cancer 25%
Breast cancer 24%
Type 2 diabetes 30%
Hypertension 50%
Early death 20-30%

Exercise is also a proven way of helping you improve your quality of life and long term survival if you already have a long term condition, such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, stroke, arthritis, osteoporosis, depression, back pain and many more.

It can, however, be difficult to know how to start an exercise programme, particularly if you are unfit or unwell.

If you want to find out more about how exercise can help you personally, and find local exercise opportunities to suit you, please discuss this with your GP or practice nurse.

OxSport are happy to accept GP referrals for people who find it difficult to exercise for medical reasons.
