Paediatric Rheumatology

We provide a specialist, multidisciplinary paediatric rheumatology service for the Thames Valley area (Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire) and neighbouring counties.

These include:
  • Northamptonshire
  • Hampshire
  • Wiltshire
  • Surrey
  • West Sussex.

We offer the following services.

  • Management of acute, sub-acute, medium and long-term inflammatory joint disease (Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis / JIA)
  • Management of juvenile dermatomyositis and Lupus (SLE), childhood vasculitis and other connective tissue diseases (including cytotoxic management)
  • Management of autoinflammatory conditions (e.g. Periodic Fevers)
  • Management of severe acute multi-system disease, including support on intensive care
  • Transitional care for adolescents with inflammatory diseases in readiness for their move to adult services
  • Diagnosis and management of rare syndromes e.g. skeletal dysplasias (development abnormalities)
  • Assessment of localised and generalised Chronic Pain Syndromes

  • Great Western Hospital, Swindon
  • Milton Keynes Hospital
  • The Oxford Centre for Young People in Pain (OXCYPP) at Douglas House, Oxford

Paediatric rheumatology services are based in Children's Outpatients at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre with close ties to the John Radcliffe Hospital.
