Neurology is the branch of medicine that deals with disorders of the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles.

The Trust's neurological teams have extensive experience in all these areas. They work closely with colleagues with expertise in related areas including:
- clinical neurophysiology (nervous system function)
- rehabilitation medicine
- neuroimaging
- head injury
- neuro-ophthalmology (visual problems related to the nervous system)
- neuro-otology (hearing and balance)
- neuropaediatrics
- pain management
- spinal injury
- neuropathology (disease of the nervous system)
- neurogenetics (the role of genes in the nervous system)
- neuroimmunology (the study of both the nervous and immune systems)
- neuropsychology (the study of brain structure and function related to psychological processes and behavours)
- neuropsychiatry (the study of mental disorders caused by disease of the nervous system).
Our consultants also provide clinical outpatient services in district general hospitals across the Thames Valley. Patients come from Oxfordshire and surrounding areas such as Northampton and Swindon.
All medical students spend time here during their first clinical year in neurology and have the opportunity for special study modules in their final year.
