We are honoured to be one of 18 pilot sites across the country, launched in September 2024, to improve patient experience and clinical outcomes for adults and children experiencing a Sickle Cell crisis.

'ACT NOW' in a Sickle Cell crisis - pilot launch

Wessex and Thames Valley Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre (HCC), led by Oxford University Hospitals, is responsible for coordinating, supporting and promoting a system-wide network approach to the delivery of haemoglobinopathy services to adults and children. For example, sickle cell disease, thalassaemia and rare inherited anaemias.

About the HCC

Wessex and Thames Valley Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre provides additional coordination, training and clinical leadership support for existing networking arrangements.

The HCC supports the Oxford and Southampton Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Teams (SHTs) which together with the Local Haemoglobinopathy Teams (LHTs) cover the Wessex and Thames Valley Networks.
