Maternity Tobacco Dependency Service

Welcome to the Maternity Tobacco Dependency Service.

Specialist Tobacco Dependency Advisors provide services to support your attempt to quit smoking / tobacco use and remain smoke free during your pregnancy.

The first 15 weeks of pregnancy is an excellent time to quit smoking, to maximise the chance of a great outcome for you and your baby at the time of birth.

Our Maternity Tobacco Dependency Service has an open-door policy, which means we are here to support you at any point during your pregnancy.

We appreciate that making the decision to stop smoking can be difficult: but it is important to understand that it is never too late to access our services - speak to your community midwife or consultant, and they will arrange this for you.

What we offer

We can offer you:

  • one-to-one support
  • information about products that will help you quit
  • help with setting a 'quit date'
  • discussion of how to deal with triggers and difficult situations around quitting
  • a support network for you and your family.

We can refer partners / significant others who would like to quit to Stop for Life OXON (or they can self-refer):

Stop Smoking In Oxfordshire, Quit Smoking Today - Stop For Life Oxon

We offer a 12-week treatment programme with behavioural support and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT):

Stop smoking in pregnancy - NHS website

We offer Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring at every antenatal appointment - your midwife will be happy to discuss this further with you.

Appointments

We can visit you in your home, or in a hospital setting or at any secure location of your choice. The service is tailored to your needs.

Your first appointment with us will last between 45 and 60 minutes.

After this, we offer a further four appointments, one week apart. We can be flexible to your individual circumstances and will plan the support to quit pathway in partnership with you.
