When you are in labour

If you plan to have your baby on Delivery Suite at the John Radcliffe Hospital, please contact the Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU).

If you are planning to have your baby at the Oxford Spires Midwifery-led Unit, please call the unit directly when you are in labour.

If you choose to have your baby on Delivery Suite you will have access to doctors and midwives throughout your labour and birth.

If you choose to have your baby on the Spires Midwifery-led Unit, midwives will care for you throughout your labour and birth.

Most of our accommodation on the wards is in bays with four beds, so we will do our best to maintain your privacy and dignity at all times.

If your baby's birth is straightforward, we will encourage you to go home within 24 hours of the birth.

If you are going home by car, you must have an approved baby's car seat with you: a car seat for a baby is a legal requirement.
