Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has again been given a major award by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for continued support of the armed forces.

The Trust has continued to achieve recognition with a Silver Award in the 2021 MoD Employer Recognition Scheme by demonstrating its ongoing support for the military community through implementing practical policies in the workplace.

Silver accreditation is awarded to employers which

  • demonstrate support for service personnel issues and employ at least one member of the armed forces community
  • actively communicate and uphold a positive stance to their employees via established HR policies and procedures
  • show flexibility towards annual training and mobilisation commitments of Reservist employees and support the employment of cadet instructors, armed forces veterans (including the wounded, injured and sick) and military spouses/partners.

All entries are subject to a rigorous validation process by a selection board made up of senior military personnel.

Terry Roberts, Chief People Officer at Oxford University Hospitals, said: "I am delighted that as a Trust we continue to achieve Silver recognition for our support to the Armed Forces Covenant.

"Being a member of the Armed Forces (regular or reserve) can have a significant impact on both those serving and their families. We can play an important role by understanding the pressures that can be experienced by those affected and providing the most supportive environment we can.

"The award also helps to fulfil our ambition of being an employer of choice for the Armed Forces and we will continue to improve our work policies to achieve Gold standard recognition."
