- most joint and muscle pain.
On attending the department
- Your first appointment may last 45-60 minutes. Your review appointment may last up to 30 minutes.
- If you do not speak English, the therapist will use an interpreter, via telephone.
- We will ask you to complete questionnaires about your condition, for the physiotherapist treating you and for the person who referred you. These will take about 10 minutes to complete.
- We will discuss your problem / why you have been referred for physiotherapy, and your general health and wellbeing, with you.
- We will give you a detailed examination, involving you having to move in different directions.
- We may ask you to undress, so please wear appropriate underwear. If you have a back or leg problem, please bring shorts: if you have a shoulder problem, please bring a vest.
- You may bring a friend or relative with you to your appointment. You may also ask for a chaperone for your examination if you feel this is necessary. Please contact us to arrange this.
- We may use a variety of treatment techniques, depending on the nature of your problem.
- If physiotherapy is to be successful, we need your co-operation. Please follow the advice we give you and do your home exercise programme.
- We have a gym that may be used as part of your assessment / treatment, under the supervision of a physiotherapist.
- Goal-setting is an important part of physiotherapy; it is helpful to think about what you would like to achieve by coming to the department.
