Nutrition and Dietetics
Three of the Oxford University Hospitals' hospitals - the John Radcliffe, Churchill and Horton - have a dedicated Dietetic Department. There is also a Community Dietetic Service based in the East Oxford Health Centre, Cowley Road, Oxford.
Registered Dietitians (RDs) assess and advise on diet and nutrition. The title 'dietitian' can only be used by those appropriately trained professionals who are registered with the Health Professions Council.
Virtually all clinical areas within the Trust are covered by a dietitian who can advise on diet and nutrition appropriate for various conditions at different stages of disease.
The community team work clinically in a variety of settings including GP clinics, community hospitals and patients' own homes. They also have a public health nutrition role working in educational establishments and workplaces.
The service is committed to teaching/training the public and other health professionals about diet and nutrition, the production of resources to support training and acting as advisors to the Trust on the nutritional standards and specifications for the patient food service.
