Stephen graduated from the University of Oxford Medical School in 1998 with a first class degree in Natural Sciences and remained in Oxford for specialist training in Respiratory and General (Internal) Medicine. He was appointed as Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine, Oxford University Hospitals in 2010.
He has subspecialty clinical interests in cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, pneumonia and complex lung infection. His major research interest is the study of human genetic susceptibility to severe bacterial respiratory disease.

Dr Maxine Hardinge

Maxine has been Consultant in Respiratory and General Medicine in Oxford since 2000. She is based at the Oxford Centre of Respiratory Medicine. She trained at Bristol University and worked in Bristol, Salisbury and Southampton, coming to Oxford in 1993 to do research for an MD on non-invasive ventilation.
She is lead clinician for COPD, pulmonary rehabilitation and oxygen services in Oxford, and provides medical support for the county-wide respiratory specialist nursing team.

Professor Timothy Hinks

Timothy graduated from the University of Oxford Medical School in 2001 and has undertaken research in Oxford, Cambridge, Southampton and Melbourne.
He completed higher specialist training in Wessex where he undertook a PhD into the immune mechanisms of severe asthma. His research and clinical interests are focused on immunological and clinical aspects of severe asthma and the role of airways infections in driving symptoms in some forms of asthma.

Dr Annabel Nickol

Annabel Nickol is a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine and leads the Oxford Sleep and Ventilation service, which is one of the larger UK centres with around 17,000 patients on long-term CPAP and 750 on NIV, many of whom have complex needs.
She is medical advisor to the Sleep Apnoea Trust Association, Co-chair of the OSA Alliance and was a member of the NICE OSAHS Guideline committee.
She graduated from Guys and St Thomas' in London in 1995, then worked in New Zealand, South Wales and London before moving to Oxford.
She was able to indulge her passion for Respiratory Physiology in her youth with research into control of breathing at sea level and high altitude (BSc, First Class Hons, London 1992) and sleep at high altitude (Chairman of 'Medical Expeditions'). She later translated that work into observing physiological changes in patients with ventilatory failure initiating nocturnal NIV (PhD, Brompton, London, 2004). She is part of the UK Clinical Sleep Research Network, helping optimise OSA treatment through clinical trials.

Prof Ian D Pavord

Ian Pavord is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Oxford and Honorary Consultant Physician at the OUH. He is a Fellow of St Edmund Hall. He was a Consultant Physician from 1995 and Honorary Professor of Medicine from 2005 to 2013 at the Institute for Lung Health, Glenfield Hospital, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
He has a research interest in the clinical aspects of inflammatory airway diseases (asthma, cough, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and pioneered the clinical use of non-invasive measures of airway inflammation in these conditions.

Nayia Petousi holds a degree in Medicine from the University of Cambridge and a DPhil in Biomedical Basic Sciences from the University of Oxford, supervised by Professors Sir Peter Ratcliffe and Peter Robbins.
She undertook her higher specialist training in respiratory medicine in Cambridge, gaining experience in all aspects of lung disease including pulmonary vascular diseases, and in Oxford, where she was also an academic clinical lecturer prior to her consultant post.

Prof Najib Rahman

Najib Rahman is Professor of Respiratory Medicine, Director of the Oxford Respiratory Trials Unit and Research Lead for the Pleural Service.
He completed his DPhil in pleural infection in 2010 and was appointed as a consultant in 2012. He runs multicentre and multinational clinical trials in pleural infection, pneumothorax, malignant pleural effusion and a wide range of other respiratory diseases. He has published over 300 papers and is widely cited in the literature.
He is trained in pleural interventions (including indwelling pleural catheters, image-guided biopsies, thoracoscopy), thoracic ultrasound, EBUS and bronchoscopy.
He is Chair of multiple BTS and ERS treatment guidelines in pleural disease, and is National Lead for Respiratory Research at the NIHR Clinical Research Network.

Peter graduated from Imperial College, London in 2006. He completed his Respiratory training in the North West Thames region in 2019. During his training he spent four years at the Royal Brompton ILD Unit as a clinical research fellow and was awarded a PhD from the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial for his research into cough in fibrotic lung diseases.
