Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit working with Holding Hearts to support bereaved families

19/08/2024

Staff at Oxford University Hospitals’ (OUH) Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) have been working together with a charity to help support families going through early pregnancy loss.

Holding Hearts Baby Loss Support is a charity dedicated to helping hospitals across the UK in their support of bereaved families, and provides essential baby loss resources and memory hearts to families grieving the loss of a baby.

The kits donated by Holding Hearts include resin hearts and holders for scan pictures.

Jules Woodall, Specialist Midwife at the EPAU, said: "We're incredibly grateful to Holding Hearts for these beautiful donations. Small touches like these can really make a difference for families going through one of the most challenging times of their lives."

A bake sale as a thank you for Holding Hearts was held recently and raised £140.

Jessica Perry, founder of Holding Hearts, said: "We're so pleased to be able to provide our memory hearts, books and scan cards to Oxford EPAU and the response that we have already received from bereaved parents and the staff working at the unit has been great.

"As a small charity which relies on generous donations to stay afloat, it was such a wonderful surprise to find out about the money raised with the EPAU recent bake sale. We're constantly growing and trying to improve our care and hope to be able to support many more families in the Oxford area in the years to come."

Support for families experiencing baby loss has been a focus at the Trust, and Oxford Hospitals Charity has recently created a bereavement garden and made improvements across the Bereavement Suites to provide additional support for those families experiencing loss.
