OUH Healthcare Support Worker receives NHS England Chief Nursing Officer Award
11/12/2024
Congratulations to Deepak Vincent, one of our Neurosciences nursing assistants, on receiving the NHS England Chief Nursing Officer Award.
The awards recognise the significant contributions of nurses and healthcare support workers.
The nominator, Jade Evans, one of our Neurosurgery Ward Sisters said: "Deepak is an excellent member of the team who has a bright caring and positive attitude to his work. He is great with patients and always advocates for them when he is on shift.
"He is a team player and always goes above and beyond to help his colleagues and all the staff on Neurosurgery Red/High Care Ward love working with him.
"This nomination reflects a particular event where we had a patient on the ward for a few weeks who was really confused and disorientated. Deepak went into him every day and introduced himself, attended to the patients’ needs, and gave him a shave every day. He was attentive towards him and built a great rapport with this patient throughout his admission.
"The patient came back to the ward a few months later and wasn’t able to recall Deepak’s name as he had been confused, but spoke of a healthcare support worker who had cared for him exceptionally well and wanted to thank him for all he did.
"He pointed to Deepak's picture on our notice board and said "it was this gentleman, he got me through it all."
"Despite the fact the patient was confused and disorientated at times, through it all he could remember Deepak's kindness and compassionate care.
"Deepak is a valuable member of our team."
Binu George, Matron of Neurosciences at OUH, said: "Congratulations to Deepak for winning the prestigious award. This is an incredible achievement and reflects your exceptional dedication, kindness and compassion. Well done, we are very proud of you."
Deepak said: "I am deeply honoured and grateful to receive this award. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. This recognition inspires me to continue striving for excellence and making a positive impact in our field. Thank you for this incredible recognition."
Thank you, Deepak, for all that you do.
