Adverse weather and hospital services

18/01/2013
This article is more than eleven years old.

During this period of cold and snowy weather, we are experiencing an increase in ice and snow related injuries and our Emergency Department at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford is very busy.

Our staff are working hard to treat patients as quickly as possible, but waiting times are longer than usual.

Please only attend our hospital Emergency Department if you are in urgent need.

For alternative support from services such as local out of hours GP services, local Minor Injuries Units and NHS 111 telephone help, please see NHS Oxfordshire's website: www.oxfordshirepct.nhs.uk

You don't need an appointment to visit a Minor Injuries Unit (MIU).

There are MIUs at Townlands Hospital in Henley, Witney Community Hospital and Abingdon Community Hospital. All are open seven days a week.

NHS 111

If you need medical advice and your GP is unavailable, please contact the new 24 hour NHS advice line -111. Calls from landlines and mobiles are free.

NHS 111 will get you through to a team of fully trained call advisers, who are supported by experienced clinicians. You should call NHS 111 if you need medical help and it is not a 999 emergency.

Oxford University Hospital sites

Currently, work is ongoing to keep car parks and access roads clear on all of our hospital sites, but as the snow continues it may not be possible to keep all areas clear.

Please proceed with caution as conditions are difficult.  Snow clearing is likely to be an ongoing process, and we appreciate your patience.

Please be careful to not cause an obstruction and to continue to respect disabled bays and ambulance bays.
