A scheme for registered nurses and midwives, DAISY Awards allow patients and their families, as well as colleagues, to nominate a nurse or midwife who has made a real difference through outstanding clinical care.
The scheme was created in the USA in 1999 by the family of J Patrick Barnes, following his death from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP.
The DAISY Foundation commemorates the appreciation Patrick's family had for the nursing care and compassion shown to him and his family.
Following Patrick's death, they felt compelled to thank the nurses in a very public way by establishing the Foundation.

How it works
Each DAISY award recipient will be recognised at a surprise ceremony, typically in their ward or department.
Sometimes, the person who nominated the individual attends to read the nomination.
They'll receive a DAISY award pin, certificate and a hand-carved sculpture - 'A Healer's Touch'.

Selection process
Nominations are evaluated by our volunteers in the Magnet Program Team to ensure that the individuals meet the DAISYcriteria (i.e. the person nominated is a registered nurse or midwife employed by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).
Your nomination will then be anonymised and considered by an expert panel. Each nomination is considered against a scoring criteria. There are 24 awards a year. (Three are for midwives and 21 for nurses.)
Due to the volume of nominations we are unable to contact each nominator, but if your nominee is successful we will be be in touch. However, each nominee receives a congratulatory letter and a badge, whether or not they are selected.
We thank for you for considering nominating one of our amazing nurses or midwives.
