Academic Programmes for Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals
The Practice Development and Education team at Oxford University Hospitals has developed, delivers and manages a number of academic courses affiliated with university partners.
We're pleased to offer these courses to staff outside of our Trust and would welcome your application.
Our courses at OUH offer the opportunity for you to grow as a practitioner across a range of specialties. We offer graduate and postgraduate qualifications to develop your clinical practice and critical thinking, deepen your understanding of your patient care and advance your career.
On completion of your studies, you will receive accreditation from the university of your qualification achievement.
Delivery for the courses is either on OUH sites within our learning environments / centres or online via the university's virtual learning platform. The significant benefit of the course being delivered as a partnership enables access to guest speakers who are experts in their field.
You'll be registered as a university student and have access to all their learning support options, library services, confidential student support and advice, and student benefits and discounts.

Who can apply
Programme-specific criteria
Each programme has different eligibility criteria - please check the specific requirements of your chosen programme.
Support from your organisation
It is important that you have the full support of your line manager and organisation to be released for teaching sessions and provide funding as applicable.
Relevant role and experience
You will need to be working in a relevant patient area or have frequent contact with patients from your specialism.
Some courses have work-related learning elements that will require support from your employer to provide opportunities for this learning.
Commitment to study
Demonstrate commitment and motivation to undertake postgraduate study. This may be demonstrated through a supporting statement.
English language requirements
Applicants must demonstrate a command of the English Language to allow them to succeed on their programme of study. Where English is not the first language, or the applicant has not been educated mainly in English, applicants should possess a certificate showing achievement in IELTS of 6.5 or above overall, with a score no lower than 6.0 for writing and no remaining band/component below 5.5; in addition, although stated as an IELTS entry score the University accepts UKVI approved equivalencies.
Previous qualification achievements
Every applicant's qualification level is checked before enrolling onto a course to ensure you meet the eligibility criteria and have the academic skills needed to study at Level 6 or Level 7.
- To apply to Level 7, a completed Level 6 qualification is required.
- To apply to Level 6, a completed Level 5 qualification is required.
We can check the UK equivalence level of academic qualifications achieved outside the UK if you are an internationally educated practitioner through the ENIC database. To request the check, email AcademicProgrammes@ouh.nhs.uk a scanned copy your academic qualification certificate of your studies (e.g. a degree or diploma from a university, college or school).
Please note, our team log this check for OUH records including your provided qualification details and the equivalent UK level with your name, and may share this outcome with your programme lead, but we will not share the copies of the certificate(s) outside of the team. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to ask. The result is only guidance and not a formal individual equivalence assessment. If you would like to apply for a formal Statement of Comparability, you can find details about this on the ENIC website here: Statement of Comparability.
If you are unsure whether you meet the eligibility criteria, we would still like to discuss your options with you. There may be other admissions criteria that could support your application.
