Sarah Manley

08/05/2024

Sarah Manley, one of our senior sisters in Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) at the Horton General Hospital, recently received a DAISY Award in recognition of the exceptional end of life care she provided to an elderly patient and the proactive compassionate support she showed their family.

The award was presented by Sarah Curtis – Acting Divisional Director of Nursing for Medicine, Rehabilitation and Cardiac.

Her nominator said: "A elderly patient was brought into hospital with breathlessness, confusion, and a general decline in her health. Her family recognised that she was deteriorating and coming to the end of her life. Sarah supported the family, listening to their distress and concerns about the situation, and their desire for their loved one to have a peaceful and dignified death.

"Sarah advocated above and beyond to support the family, including referring to the Palliative Care and Chaplaincy teams. Through Sarah's actions and advocacy, the family were able to share the last few hours with their loved one in a peaceful and dignified manner that they all deserved.

"Sarah and the team on EAU should be recognised for the ongoing end of life care delivered for patients and families."

Congratulations Sarah, and thank you for all that you do.
